The funds raised will directly support the selection, training and placement of more service dogs to veterans, first responders and gold star families

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY
The 7th Annual V-Soft Cares’ Charity Golf Scramble was held on Monday, June 28, 2021. The event, hosted by V-Soft Cares, raised $42,000 for Dogs Helping Heroes. 87 golfers participated in the scramble at the prestigious Valhalla Golf Club.
After postponing the annual golf scramble due to health and safety concerns of the COVID-19 Pandemic, V-Soft Cares was happy to get back to supporting local causes with their annual charity golf scramble. The event, which took place just a week before the 4th of July, supported a patriotic charity in Dogs Helping Heroes. The charity’s mission is to “restore lost freedom and peace of mind to wounded veterans and first responders and their families by gifting specially trained and certified assistance dogs.”
To date, the charity has paired more than 52 service dogs with some deserving heroes. It takes around $7,000 to adopt, train and care for each service animal prior to placement, so V-Soft Cares was thrilled to work with an organization that would have such a huge and lasting impact on these heroes.
“It was our privilege to be chosen as the charity this year,” said Kassi Cawood, Board Member of Dogs Helping Heroes.
More than 40 volunteers helped run the event, including representatives from the charity. Veterans Justin Troxel and Gabriel Curry, as well as retired first responder, Kent Monohan, are all recipients of service dogs through Dogs Helping Heroes. Each were present with their canines at the event to participate at the “Putt for a Hero” hole to help in raising funds and engaging players.
Susan Hall was also present with her dog, Scout. Scout was her late husband Steve’s dog, who was a veteran that suffered from PTSD. Steve received Scout through Dogs Helping Heroes to help him cope with everyday life. Friends and family say Scout changed Steve’s life and now provides a constant reminder to the family how much this organization helps those in need.
“We are honored,” said Susan Hall. “You have enabled Dogs Helping Heroes to keep up their good work.”
The event featured an 18-hole golf scramble inclusive of Trackman analyses, “Putting with a Hero,” longest drive, closest to the pin and putting green contests, as well as a silent auction, live auction and raffle.
Support came from multiple sponsors, including Platinum Sponsor, ARGI, Gold Sponsor WesBanco, Silver Sponsors Hatfield Media and Chase Bank, and Bronze Sponsor Vintage Print and Distribution. Many area businesses gave monetary and product donations for silent auction and raffle items, as well.
“We are so thankful to put on this event every year and couldn’t be happier to support Dogs Helping Heroes” said V-Soft President, Purna Veer. “It’s been very humbling to see so many leaders and businesses in the community step up to make this golf scramble a success for our veterans and first responders.”
